Stay at Royal Park

Meeting to discuss his possible discharge scheduled for Sept 6, so looks like he will be at Royal Park at least till then. Meanwhile they are working on his rehab, and he is much happier at this place.

A fall in the bathroom

Fran had a fall in the bathroom that caused a minor cut. He is being checked at CMC to make sure nothing else happened to him. Will update once he is back from hospital.

Therapy time

His therapy is usually for about half an hour, and usually done no later than 4pm. You can call him at his cell phone, or his room phone at 704 443-3631.

Great News!

Fran went to see his neuro-oncologist this morning.  She showed us his latest MRI after surgery and she said it was "gorgeous".  There is one large dark shadow where the tumor used to be.  There is nothing suspicious left behind. So now his steroid intake can start being reduced. Also great news is that, as promised, his tumor tissues will be tested and to see if his exhibits any of the "markers" that would qualify him for experimental drugs for immuno-therapy instead of going back to chemo or radiation. Also this morning, two days after moving to Royal Park,  he seems to have recovered some of his strength.  He could stand up on his own and his voice is much stronger.  Very good signs!
He can eat anything except foods with high sugar. So please keep that in mind when you bring food to him.

Just transferred to Royal Park rehab in Matthews, room 416.

Fran is moving to Royal Park Rehab

Fran has been very unhappy with Sardis Oaks Rehab.  The staff's performance has been very poor. So we got him accepted at Royal Park Rehab in Matthews.  They will pick him up on Aug. 22 at 3:00 PM. He had stayed there before and was happy there.

Room change

Finally moved out of ICU. His new room nbr is 9910, phone nbr 704 355-6801.

Waiting...

Hospital rooms full, so still waiting to move out of ICU. Doctor thinks by next Tuesday, he can move back to assisted living, at Brighton Gardens.

Out of ICU

Francis is In room 9618 in ICU at CMC. Phone in room is 704 446-9618. Soon they will move him out of ICU. Will Post new info when available.

Up and About

Spent the whole morning with Fran.  He's alert and can talk like nothing had happened. He ate his breakfast.  The staff asked many questions and he's able to answer correctly.  They made him stand up and walk around. His voice is strong. They will be doing an MRI today. The surgeon visited him early this morning. We have not given him his cell phone back. So no calls. Tomorrow he will have the phone back. No worries.

Surgery Complete and Successful

Dr, Van Poppel completed the operation an hour ago. Everything went well. He said the bad tumor had grown back and completely covered the old tumor.  So this operation was badly needed and just in time. He is now in recovery and then will be transferred ISU for the night.
There is no need to visit him tonight as he would not remember anything and needs to be left alone to recover. Tomorrow the doctors will evaluate him and decide if he can go home, stay in the hospital or maybe go back to rehab. We'll let you all know as soon as we know more.

Aug 9 and 10

Aug 9, doctor appointment 1:30-2:30. No food or drink after 4 pm. Aug 10, surgery at 11am.

Therapy times daily

Francis has therapy daily at 9am and 1-3pm, so best to avoid those times for visiting.

Surgery date moved up

Surgery date has been moved up to August 10, Friday, at 11am.

Second surgery

Second surgery scheduled on Monday, August 20, at noon at CMC main hospital.
